No. 24 Rangers Outhustle Grizzlies in 3-1 Win

DENVER - The No. 24 Regis University Rangers (18-5, 13-2 RMAC) squared off against the Adams State University Grizzlies (9-16, 5-11 RMAC) in a four-set thriller, Friday night at the Regis Field House. The Rangers were coming off a six-day break and a big win over Colorado Christian in which graduate student Caitlyn Burroway surpassed 1,500 career digs. Tonight, the squad was playing as fiercely as they have been all season as they collected their 18th victory.

How it Happened: ASU started out hot in the first set as they owned a .393 hitting percentage. Regis' seven errors were enough to hand ASU a 25-19 win compared to the Grizzlies one. However, in set two, RU came back with vengeance and recorded an eight-point run midway through the set. After ASU finally scored a couple of points to end the run, the Rangers got right back to business and took off on another four-point swing which was capped off by a stylish kill from sophomore Halle Theis to make Regis' lead 16-4. The switch was flipped as Regis forced Adams to hit -.034 and took the second set, 25-12.

With the match tied up at 1-1, the Rangers opened up the third set with a 6-0 run with the freshman Beatrice Manzon at the helm serving. RU would go on to record their best hitting percentage of the night (.414) and even go on a 9-1 run which was aided by two monster blocks from the likes of junior Nadine Burbrink, junior Mara LeGrand and sophomore Maddy Mallory. RU's attackers were too much for the Grizzlies to handle as they easily took the third set, 25-13.

In the fourth and final set, Manzon opened up Regis' scoring with another run - this time, 4-0. RU's stout defense at the net allowed the team to never trail in the set. ASU gave the Rangers a scare late in the set by going on a 5-1 run to make the score 24-20, however, the Rangers finished strong as a kill from senior Rachel Siurek sealed the deal for Regis.

Game Notes: Burbrink had a match-high attacking percentage (.778) while Burroway had a match-high 20 kills. Burbrink continues to lead Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) in blocks (94) and picked up two tonight. LeGrand posted 48 assists as the junior brings her season-total to 919 which is third-best in the RMAC. She also had a match-high three service aces. The Rangers totaled a .294 hitting percentage through the four sets compared to ASU's .128.

Up Next for the Rangers: The team will be back in action tomorrow at 3 p.m. when the New Mexico Highlands Cowgirls (9-16, 5-10 RMAC) come to town.
