LEBANON, Ill. – The 12
th – ranked Regis University women's lacrosse team (1-1) got their first win of the season after beating the McKendree University (2-1) on Monday afternoon.
How it Happened: Reeling from a difficult come-from-behind defeat at the hands of the nation's No. 2 ranked team, Regis rebounded with a nine-goal win over the Bearcats of McKendree University. The Rangers started with a three-goal deficit with the home team netting the first three goals of the game. That was met with a 6-0 run from RU beginning with a goal from senior
Kyleigh Peoples, and finishing with three-straight goals from junior
Alexis Parker.
McKendree scored two more goals to bring the score closer, 6-5, but another three goals from Regis extended their lead back to four goals, 9-5. The Rangers used another 6-0 run late in the second half to go up 17-7, highlighted by three-straight goals from senior
Andrea Macalalad. The home team scored a goal with 3:10 remaining in the game to bring the RU lead below double-digits, and that is the score that remained as the final whistle blew, 17-8.
Game Notes: Leading all scorers in the game was Parker who scored five goals. It was Peoples who led all players with six points as she collected three goals and three assists in the game. Macalalad also had three goals, sophomores
Gabby Rothermund and
Bailey Truex each had two goals and one assist. The two other goals were scored by senior
Jessica Berg and junior
Maya Quigley.
On the defensive end, Peoples had three caused turnovers to lead the team while Quigley added two of her own. Peoples also added a team-high six ground balls in the contest and in the draw circle Berg won seven draw controls while freshman
Lily Ferguson tallied six. Senior
Elle Crawford (W, 1-1) earned the win making six saves in 52 minutes while freshman
Elizabeth Myotte saw her first collegiate action making one save and allowing one goal in eight minutes of work.
Up Next for the Rangers: The No. 12 ranked Regis University women's lacrosse team returns home for their next two contests with their home opener scheduled for this Saturday at noon. Regis welcomes the Westminster College Griffins to the Regis Lacrosse Field for a non-conference tilt.
