DENVER – The No. 12 ranked Regis University women's lacrosse team (2-1) improved their record on the season with a home opening 17-3 victory over the Griffins of Westminster College (0-2).
How it Happened: In the first game on the Regis Lacrosse Field in over a year and a half, Regis' offense was locked in and ready to go from the second that the opening whistle blew. The Rangers rattled off 17-straight goals before the visiting Griffins were able to get their first goal of the game.
Sophomore
Maddie Northcut scored the first goal of the game, her first of the season, and then senior
Andrea Macalalad scored just 30 seconds later for a quick 2-0 advantage for RU. Sophomore
Bailey Truex linked up and took a pass from senior
Jessica Berg to net her third goal of the season, and then moments later senior
Kyleigh Peoples made a pass to Macalalad to put Regis in front by four.
Berg got into the scoring column with an unassisted goal, and sophomore
Gabby Rothermund added her third goal of the season to put the Rangers in a comfortable 6-0 spot. After that, multiple goals from senior
Catie Snee, junior
Lucy Johnson, freshman
Tia Krats, Peoples, Northcut, Berg, and Macalalad turned into a 17-0 blowout for the home side. The final goal came from Peoples, her 11
th of the season, at the 18:52 mark of the second half.
In the final 18:52, Westminster managed to score three goals including the final goal of the game which came with only 37 seconds left on the clock. Final score in Regis' home opener went in favor of the 12
th-ranked Regis Rangers by a score of 17-3.
Game Notes: As a team, the Rangers held the opposition to only five shots, two of which were saved. One save came from senior
Elle Crawford (W, 2-1) who did not allow a single goal in 30 minutes between the pipes. Freshman
Elizabeth Myotte came in for the second half and made one save.
Individually, Peoples led the team with six points coming from four goals and two assists. Rothermund finished with five points with two goals and three assists. In total seven players recorded 2+ points in the game. Rothermund led all with four caused turnovers and four draw controls. Junior
Maya Quigley added three caused turnovers and scooped up a team-best three ground balls. Rothermund, Krats and freshman
Emma Jarrett all had two ground balls apiece.
