DENVER – The top-25 matchup between the No. 12 ranked Regis University women's lacrosse team (4-1) and the No. 25 ranked Colorado Mesa University Mavericks (0-1) ended in a 14-2 thrashing of the visiting Mavericks.
How It Happened: As has been the case in their four victories thus far in 2021, Regis dominated on the offensive and defensive end, only allowing one goal in each of the two frames. The Rangers scored eight-straight goals to begin the contest, and did not concede a goal for the first 23 minutes of the game. Six different players netted goals in the first half to give RU a 9-1 advantage heading into halftime. Senior
Andrea Macalalad flashed her brilliance with three first half goals, and added one assist.
In the second half, Regis continued the pressure offensively adding five more goals to go along with holding their opponents to only one for the second-straight half. Even more impressive is that the visiting Mavericks only managed four shots in the entire second half. This was due in large part to the defensive effort from six players who recorded two or more caused turnovers in the game, led by junior
Maya Quigley who had four and added two ground balls. Regis was unstoppable on offense and they were nearly unbreakable on defense. All of their effort led to a 14-2 win over CMU.
Game Notes: Macalalad led all players with four goals and five total points on the day. Senior
Kyleigh Peoples had four points by way of two goal and two assists while also adding a caused turnover. Junior
Alexis Parker had three goals on the day, scoring on each shot that she put on goal. Reigning Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) Defensive Player of the Week,
Gabby Rothermund, won three draw controls, handed out two assists and scored one of the smoothest behind the back goals Regis has ever seen. Freshman
Lily Ferguson led all players with six draw controls as her speed continues to separate her from nearly everyone who lines up beside her on the draw circle.
Sophomore midfielder
Bailey Truex was all over the field as she tracked down a match-best three ground balls while also causing three turnovers and securing possession on the draw two times. Senior goalie
Elle Crawford (W, 4-1) earned her fourth win of the season, making four saves and allowing only one goal in 46 minutes between the pipes. Freshman
Elizabeth Myotte spent the final 13:08 as the netminder and made two saves.
