#12 Rangers Earn 16-7 win over Rockhurst University Hawks on the road

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The 12th-ranked Regis University women's lacrosse team (4-1), now winners of four-straight, picked up yet another decisive win over a non-conference opponent. This time, No. 12 Regis beat the Rockhurst University Hawks by a score of 16-7 on the road.

How It Happened: The first goal of the game was scored by Rockhurst's Carolyn Byrd after the Rangers' first shot was saved on the other end of the field. Byrd scored directly after a foul from RU set up a free-position. About 40 second later, junior Alexis Parker evened the game at one goal apiece with her tenth goal of the season, receiving a pass from sophomore Gabby Rothermund who received the assist.

After Regis was assessed a yellow card, the Hawks scored on the free-position attempt to take a 2-1 lead with 26:32 remaining in the opening half. That was the last time Rockhurst would lead in the game. Sophomore Maddie Northcut scored and unassisted goal to tie the game at two, and then senior Kyleigh People linked up with Jessica Berg to give the Rangers their first lead of the game, 3-2. Berg's goal led to a 5-0 run for RU as they took a 6-2 lead before the Hawks would strike again. After back-to-back goals from the home team, Regis responded with two of their own.

With the score at 9-6 in the second half, and holding a three-goal lead, the Rangers broke the game open with a 7-0 run which featured two short-handed goals, one from Rothermund and the other from senior Andrea Macalalad. Macalalad also netted a man-up goal and freshman Tia Krats scored her fourth goal of the season, capping off the 7-0 run from RU, giving Regis a 16-6 lead with 5:30 remaining in the game. Rockhurst scored one more goal in the final minute of the contest, but the Rangers still captured the 16-7 win over the Hawks when time expired.

Head Coach, Sarah Kellner, on the win, "we are very excited about the execution on both ends of the field. Our team's grit and intensity on defense allows our attackers possessions and let's them make big plays. A lot of our players stepped up to change the tempo of the game and give us more opportunities to score. We have tremendous leadership on both sides of the ball.
