Box Score ALAMOSA, Colo. – The Regis University baseball team displayed offense throughout its series opener against Adams State, recording runs in eight of the nine innings, as the Rangers outscored the Grizzlies, 22-7, at ASU Baseball Field on Friday.

How It Happened: With Regis maintaining a 7-4 lead in the fifth inning, senior utility player
Thomas Alexander belted a solo home run to left center, returning RU to a four-run, 8-4 lead, which was the eventual game-winning run.

Senior outfielder
Coby Zimmerman then singled and touched second after a throwing error. He then came home on sophomore infielder
Austin Vaught's double to left for a 9-4 Rangers lead.
Vaught crossed home plate, 10-4, on redshirt sophomore infielder
Colten Chase's single.

Regis lit up the scoreboard with a six-run sixth. This stretch came to be when senior outfielder
Kyle Koontz scored on senior infielder
Brevin Owen's RBI fielder's choice for an 11-4 advantage. Koontz, who finished with a game-high three stolen bases, reached base on an error and later stole second before reaching third on a passed ball.

This scoring stretch ended when senior outfielder
Ryan Tierney, who walked, scored from third on Chase's sacrifice fly to right to give RU a 16-4 lead.

Adams State added a pair of runs to its tally in the seventh. The first run happened when freshman middle infielder Jace Wytulka, who walked to lead off the inning, scored on senior utility player Kolton Bleggi's RBI double down the left-field line. Bleggi next scored on freshman left-handed pitcher/first baseman Matt Bathauer's RBI groundout to second. Bleggi's run cut the Rangers' lead to 16-6.

Four runs came in the eighth for Regis. Tierney hit a home run to left to kick off the inning, and the inning was capped by Owen's two-RBI double to center and scored senior catcher
Roger Riley and senior outfielder
Andy Beyene from third and second, respectively. Riley was hit by a pitch, and Beyene pinch-ran for sophomore infielder
Matt Marlow, who had an RBI double down the left-field line to score Chase. Owen's two-RBI double gave RU a 20-6 lead.

ASU last added to its run count, 20-7, in the eighth on sophomore middle infielder Nathan Hield's sacrifice fly to left to score sophomore outfielder Paul Giglio from third. Giglio was hit by a pitch to reach base.

The game's final runs came in the ninth. Junior utility player
Miguel Marquez scored from third on Chase's fielder's choice to shortstop, which was followed by Riley's RBI double to left center to send Chase home. Marquez hit a pinch-hit single to left center to get on base. Chase's run took the contest to its final score.

Marlow singled to left to bring Riley home from second for an early 1-0 advantage for the Rangers in the top of the first. Riley singled to right and reached second on an error.

Tierney's sacrifice fly to left in the second allowed Alexander to score from third for a 2-0 lead. Alexander walked to start the inning and later advanced to third on Zimmerman's single to right.

The Grizzlies then took the lead in the second. With the game tied, 2-2, junior right-handed pitcher/first baseman Orlando Romero scored on Wytulka's RBI fielder's choice to first for a go-ahead, 3-2 lead.

After Riley's inning-opening double to right center in the third, Koontz knocked Riley home on a single to left center to knot the game up at 3-3.

Regis began to break away from Adams State in the fourth. A Tierney RBI double down the third-base line scored Zimmerman from second for a tie-breaking, 4-3 lead. Zimmerman singled up the middle to open the inning and later reached second on a wild pitch.

Further down in the fourth, Riley homered to center and scored Tierney from second to extend the lead to 6-3.

Koontz then went deep to center on the next at-bat for a solo home run and made the score, 7-3.

Opening the fourth for ASU, junior outfielder Sammy David doubled to left center and later advanced to third on senior middle infielder Will Morley's single through the left side. A single to the pitcher by junior outfielder Chase Dixon moved David home to cut the Grizzlies' deficit to 7-4.

Game Notes: Alexander had a 3-for-5 performance at the plate, including two home runs, to go along with three runs scored, three RBI, and a walk. Riley had a 4-for-6 day with the bat, including a home run and two doubles, to accompany a game-high four runs scored and three RBI. Zimmerman turned in a 4-for-5 outcome in the opener, including a double, and had three runs scored and a stolen base. Justin Kleinsorge threw 6.0 innings in the no-decision in which he gave up four runs (three earned), five hits, and two walks while striking out four.
