GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – The Regis University baseball team completed its pod slate of games against Adams State during the No. 2 Colorado Mesa-hosted pod in which the Rangers took care of business early and beat the Grizzlies, 7-2, at Suplizio Field on Saturday.

How It Happened: Ahead 1-0 in the bottom of the first, senior outfielder
Ryan Tierney singled to left and advanced to second on the throw. In the interim, senior outfielder
Kyle Koontz and senior infielder
Brevin Owen scored from third and second, respectively, with Owen's run giving Regis a 3-0 lead that was enough to hold off Adams State. Koontz singled to shortstop, and Owen singled through the right side before reaching second on a throwing error that allowed Koontz to also reach third.

A triple to center by redshirt junior outfielder
McKay Banks capped the five-run first inning, scoring Tierney from third and freshman catcher
Reagan Guthrie from first, to increase RU's lead to 5-0. Guthrie walked to get on base.

Owen added insurance runs for the Rangers in the fifth when he drilled a two-run home run to right center, which brought home sophomore infielder
Matt Marlow in the process from first to take Regis to a 7-0 lead. Marlow singled through the left side in the previous at-bat.

Freshman middle infielder Jace Wytulka put ASU on the board in the seventh with his solo home run to right center to make the score a 7-1 deficit for the Grizzlies.

Adams State tabulated one more run in the eighth with senior utility player Kolton Bleggi's solo home run to left. Bleggi's home run moved the game to its final score of 7-2.

A sacrifice popup to second by Marlow in the first gave RU a 1-0 advantage when redshirt sophomore infielder
Colten Chase crossed home plate from third. Chase opened the game by reaching first on a throwing error.

Game Notes: Owen compiled a 2-for-4 performance at the plate, including a home run, and recorded two runs scored and two RBI. Marlow posted a 1-for-2 showing with the bat, scored one run, and had one RBI. Tierney turned in a 1-for-3 result offensively in addition to scoring one run and registering two RBI. Banks also had a 1-for-3 outcome at the plate, consisting of a triple, and had two RBI. Senior utility player
Thomas Alexander (5-0) continued his winning work on the mound, throwing 7.0 innings in which he struck out eight while allowing only one run, four hits, and two walks.
