SALT LAKE CITY – The No. 12 ranked Regis University women's lacrosse team (6-1, 2-0 RMAC) were back in action on Tuesday night as they earned a dominating win over the Westminster College Griffins (2-4, 2-2 RMAC) 19-2.
How It Happened: 19 goals is the highest scoring output for Regis this season as nine players scored for the Rangers. Both sides of the ball were spectacular all night long, but the defense held the Griffins without a shot in the first half, while the offense unloaded 24 shots on their attacking end. Senior
Kyleigh Peoples scored the first goal of the game and then assisted on a goal from sophomore
Maddie Northcut to open the 2-0 lead early on.
Junior
Sydney Landdeck scored her first goal of the season and sophomore
Gabby Rothermund followed with another. After junior
Alexis Parker, freshman
Lily Ferguson got in on the scoring, Regis found themselves ahead 6-0 less than 10 minutes into the game. Junior
Monica Looney netted the final goal of the first half which put the Rangers in front by 14 goals, while holding the home team scoreless with zero shot attempts.
In the second half, following a goal from senior
Jessica Berg, the Griffins managed to get their first goal with 18:31 remaining in the game. Four more goals from RU extended their lead to 19-1, capped off by a goal from junior
Lucy Johnson. Westminster scored another goal with two minutes left in regulation, and that is how the game would conclude, 19-2, in favor of the twelfth-ranked Regis Rangers.
Game Notes: Peoples tallied seven points on five goals and two assists in the win, snagging three ground balls as well. Ferguson finished the night with three goals, scoring on all three shots that she took, three ground balls and four draw controls. Five Regis players tallied two points apiece including senior
Andrea Macalalad (2 A, 1 GB), Berg (2 G, 3 GB, 1 CT, 2 DC), Rothermund (2 G, 1 GB, 1 CT, 5DC), Parker (2 G, 2 GB) and Northcut (2 G). Junior
Maya Quigley led the team with two caused turnovers while she and four other Rangers tallied three ground balls apiece. Senior
Elle Crawford (W, 6-1) spent 37:09 in net for RU, not seeing much action but also scooping up two ground balls on defense. Freshman
Elizabeth Myotte came on for the final 22:51 in goal for Regis. The team outshot the Griffins 36-4, winning 17 of the 22 draw controls, and edging out the home team in ground balls 24-19.
