DENVER, Colo. - The Regis University softball team (14-12, 11-11 RMAC) hosted the Fort Lewis Skyhawks (18-20, 18-16) in the Ranger's final four-game home series of the season.
Regis slipped on both ends of the doubleheader, Friday afternoon.
Game One | How it Happened: Graduate student
Taylor Armitage started in the circle in game one for Regis.
The Skyhawks got hot in their first at-bat. They scored five quick runs, partially thanks to two Regis errors.
RU struggled to get anything going offensively for the majority of the game. However, junior Jessi Case and senior Kynra Nelson each recorded a pair of hits in the game.
Case's hits came when she singled in the bottom of the first and hit a big triple to right field.
Nelson got on base when she layed a perfect bunt to the third baseman in the bottom of the first. She also recorded a single later in the bottom of the sixth inning.
Fort Lewis added two more runs in the third and seventh inning, but the Rangers were not able to match. The game ended with a score of 7-0, Skyhawks.
Game Notes: Case and Nelson were each 2-3 at the plate. They also had one stolen bag a piece. Regis committed four errors while Fort Lewis committed none. Sophomore
Logan Taylor led the team in putouts with nine, while freshman
Victoria McMains had a game-high five assists. Armitage's record is now 8-3.
Game Two | How it Happened: Sophomore
Abby Covington got the go-ahead to start in the circle for game two.
Neither team had much success offensively until the top of the third inning when McKenna Hefley and Jadyn Gilley of Fort Lewis each hit two RBI homers over the fence to make their lead 4-0.
Armitage took it upon herself to cut Fort Lewis' lead in half by slamming a two RBI bomb over the fence in the sixth inning.
The Rangers did a good job of retiring all three outs in the top of the seventh without a run, so it was up to the offense to get at least two runs in.
Case raced home when graduate student Jade Loe singled through the right side, but that would be the only run scored. The game ended with a narrow score of 4-3, Fort Lewis.
Game Notes: Case was 3-4 in the box and scored once. Loe was 1-3, but had a RBI and a stolen bag. Armitage was also 1-3, but her hit came in the form of a huge two RBI homer. Sophomore
Jillian Bartley and Junior
Madison Flores each had five putouts. Covington's record is now 0-2.
