Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Top-seeded Regis Punches Ticket to RMAC Women's Lacrosse Championship Game

DENVER – The top-seeded Regis University women's lacrosse team (13-1) punched their ticket to another Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) Tournament Championship Game with a resounding 20-7 win over the fourth-seeded Fort Lewis College Skyhawks (5-7) on Friday afternoon.

How It Happened: The score was tied 1-1 after sophomore Bailey Truex scored the opening goal of the contest and FLC responded with a goal of their own in the first five minutes of the game. 10-straight goals were scored by Regis, boosting their lead to 11-1 which initiated the running clock mercy-rule. That did not last long as the Skyhawks cut the lead to nine with 8:21 remaining in the half, but a flurry of offense sparked by senior Jessica Berg helped the Rangers finish the half on a 4-0 run to take a 15-2 lead into halftime. Berg netted two goals, Peoples added one and junior Lucy Johnson capped off the scoring run, putting her shot into the back of the net with only four seconds on the clock.

FLC came out hot in the second half, rattling off three-consecutive unassisted goals before Johnson netted her third goal of the game to stop the run. Though it was an uphill battle for the Skyhawks, they never backed down from the challenge, providing difficult opportunities for RU on both ends of the field. Despite their efforts, Regis was too strong offensively and defensively as they ended the game on a 5-2 scoring run, leading to a 20-7 victory over FLC.

Game Notes: The Rangers outshot their opponents 41-10 on the afternoon, putting 32 of their shots on goal, scoring on 20 of the shots. The ground ball battle also tilted in favor of RU (17-12) and the draw control margin was much greater with Regis winning 22 to only six for the visitors. Peoples was the leader in points on the day with eight, one-shy of her career-high (9). The attacker had four goals and four assists with one ground ball, one caused turnover and a draw control. Senior Andrea Macalalad had five points in the game with three goals and two assists, adding three ground balls and a caused turnovers as well. Senior Jessica Berg eclipsed 100 draw controls on the season as she dominated with 12 in the match. She also led all players with six caused turnovers and scooped up two ground balls.

Senior goalie Elle Crawford (W, 13-1) earned her 13th win of the season, making one save and grabbing one ground ball in the match. She spent 41:55 in net for the home team and then freshman Elizabeth Myotte came in to close out the game. Both Crawford and Myotte made one save apiece in the match.

Up Next for the Rangers: With the win, the top-seeded Regis University women's lacrosse team advances to the RMAC Tournament Championship Game where they will face the No. 2 seeded Colorado Mesa University Mavericks (9-4) who beat the No. 3 seeded University of Colorado – Colorado Springs Mountain Lions 15-13 in the second semifinal game on Friday afternoon.
