No. 16 Regis bounces back with road sweep of Chadron State

CHADRON, Neb. — Playing a Sunday matinee out east in Nebraska, the No. 16 ranked Regis University volleyball team got back in the win column with a convincing win over Chadron State College, sweeping the Eagles in straight sets: 25-18, 25-19 and 25-18.

Regis (15-5 overall, 11-1 RMAC) racked up 44 kills on an economical .344 hitting percentage, bouncing back from a tough road loss Friday evening against No. 23 Colorado School of Mines. With the loss, Chadron State dropped to 7-14 overall and 5-7 in the RMAC.

"We did a good job of rebounding after a loss Friday, then travel on Saturday for a game Sunday. Sunday games at noon are not use to playing," said Regis head volleyball coach, Joel List.

HOW IT HAPPENED: Leading the way for Regis on Sunday was its middle blocker tandem of Nadine Burbrink and Amelia Davis as the two combined for 27 of the Rangers' 44 kills.

Burbrink and Davis were as efficient as they were lethal as both players hit well over .500 for the match, with Davis at a sizzling .588 (11-1-17) and Burbrink close behind at .583 (16-2-24).

"Our middles were very effective and they figured out more than one way to score," List said. "When hitters can score in more than one way, it shows growth and maturity."

Sophomore outside hitters Emma Prentice and Hannah Kepler led all Regis pin hitters with six kills and five kills, respectively, while senior setter Mara LeGrand tallied 35 assists and three kills orchestrating the Rangers' offense.

Defensively, the Rangers were active across the back row as they popped up 45 digs, led by senior defensive specialist Haley Kennedy with a match-high 14.

Sophomore defensive specialist Bre Skala and junior outside hitter Halle Theis followed with seven digs apiece, while freshman Kylie Stremmel added six digs to pace Regis.

Stremmel added to her stellar Sunday with three of the Rangers' eight service aces, tied for the team lead with freshman middle blocker Braiziah Dixon.

UP NEXT: The Rangers head back home to two nearby rivals next weekend as they welcome in Colorado Christian University on Friday (7 p.m.) before a clash against current RMAC leaders and No. 2 ranked Metropolitan State University of Denver at 3 p.m. on Saturday.
