Regis women's basketball tabbed No. 7 in RMAC Coaches' Preseason Poll

| By:
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — The Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) announced the results of the Women's Basketball Coaches' Preseason Poll on Thursday ahead of the 2022-23 season.

Regis University came in at No. 7 in the poll with 112 points, ahead of Adams State in eighth (108 points) and just behind Westminster College in seventh (138 points).

Colorado School of Mines tops the poll with 183 points and eight first-place votes, followed by Colorado State University Pueblo (174), Black Hills State (163), Metropolitan State University of Denver (157) and Colorado Mesa (149) to round out the top-5.

The Rangers are coming off a 2021-22 campaign that saw the team finish 12-16 overall and 8-14 in RMAC play, finishing 10th overall in the conference standings. But with 11 returners from last year's squad back in the fold — including RMAC Players to Watch in Josey Ryan, Sam Deem and Erin Fry — Regis is poised to challenge for a RMAC Tournament spot again this winter.

Ryan splashed onto the scene last winter for the Rangers after transferring in from Wayne State College. She averaged a team-best 12.6 points per game and shot 42% from the floor as a junior while ranking second on the team with 32 steals. Her performance earned her RMAC Honorable Mention.

Deem was another junior transfer that assumed an impact role in 2021-22 after coming in from the University of Denver. In her first season with the Rangers, Deem started 17 of her 28 games played and averaged 6.6 points and 5.4 rebounds per game.

As for Fry, she played in a career-high 28 games for Regis as a sophomore and averaged 5.1 points per contest while finishing second on the team with 66 assists. She is poised to take on a bigger role in the Rangers' backcourt in 2022-23 following the graduation of point guard Tashika Burrell.

The Regis women's basketball team is set to open the 2022-23 season on November 11-12 when it competes in the RMAC/Lone Star Conference Challenge, taking on St. Mary's University and St. Edward's University down in San Antonio, Texas.
