Rangers fall at home to Colorado School of Mines

DENVER, Colo. – The Regis University men's soccer team took on the Colorado School of Mines on Sunday, Oct. 9, falling 2-0 against a tough Oredigger offense.

With 16 shots total, and six of them on goal, the Rangers (4-8-2 overall, 1-3-2 RMAC) just could not find the back of the net against the Orediggers (9-3-2 overall, 6-0-0 RMAC).

How It Happened: Mines was quick to strike in the sixth minute with a shot from Michael Sprauer not but five yards from the goal line. The Ranger defense tried to argue for an offside call, but the goal assisted by Chris Seery held.

The Rangers were not going away quietly, however, as they had six shots during the first half. Two of the Rangers' best scoring chances of the match came in the 23rd and 25th minute.

In the 23rd minute, Vilhjalmur Kaldal had a beautiful header attempt that was blocked by another Oredigger deep in the 18-yard box.

Kristian Hooker tried to add a little of his own magic with an absolute rocket off the left foot that just missed the goal and ricocheted off the left goal post.

In the second half, Regis pressed on with another nine shots in the half. During the match, the Rangers outshot the Orediggers, 16-13.

Sophomore Rayhan Carlson-Du Toit all but matched Hooker's shot as his own attempt in the 49th minute hit the goal post, this time on top, and bounced out of bounds.

Fourth-year Kaldal was relentless in his pursuit as another shot of his made its way towards the bottom center of the goal, but was blocked by an Oredigger defender in the 52nd minute.

Orediggers' goalkeeper Brian Doherty blocked the last three shots on goal for the Rangers from Kaldal (2) and Matteo Colombo (1) in the 67th, 76th, and 78th minutes.

The second goal for Mines would come in the 88th minute from Chris Seery, assisted by Lucas King.
