Five Rangers named to RMAC All-Conference teams on Thursday

| By:
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — The Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) announced the volleyball All-Conference teams on Thursday prior to the start of the 2022 RMAC Tournament.

Regis University, ranked No. 14 in the country and the No. 2 seed in the conference tournament, was well represented as two student-athletes — senior setter Mara LeGrand and sophomore middle blocker Amelia Davis — each earned First Team All-RMAC honors, while a total of six Rangers garnered recognition.

A trio of Regis players were named Second Team All-Conference in senior middle blocker Nadine Burbrink, graduate student right-side hitter Klaudia Sowizral and junior outside hitter Halle Theis. Senior defensive specialist Haley Kennedy was the sixth Ranger represented as she earned RMAC Honorable Mention.

Thursday's announcement marked the third straight season LeGrand has earned First Team All-Conference honors. The versatile setter ranks third in the RMAC with 970 assists and a 10.32 assists per set average, while leading all RMAC setters in kills (109), digs (238) and total blocks (55).

Davis, a Denver native and sophomore transfer from East Carolina, makes her debut on the First Team All-Conference list in her first season with the Rangers. The 6'5 middle blocker ranks second on the team, and ninth in the RMAC, with 278 kills on a team-best .334 attack percentage.

Defensively, Davis' 99 total blocks are the second most among all RMAC players and her total points (340.5) rank fifth in the conference.

Burbrink, named a First Team All-Academic player earlier this week, has continued her strong play in her second season with the Rangers as a dynamic one-two middle combo with Davis. Burbrink is third on the team in kills with 242 on a .307 hitting percentage. She has also added 83 total blocks, defensively; the eighth most in the RMAC.

Sowizral is another newcomer to the Rangers in 2022, transferring in from UCONN. She has tallied 174 kills and 32 total blocks. Sowizral has played her best volleyball in the past two weeks leading up to the postseason as she has double-digit kill totals in four straight matches and was named the RMAC Offensive Player of the Week on Nov. 7.

Theis, the Regis kills leader during the regular season with 284, has continued to elevate her game during her junior season. She has already set career highs in kills and hitting percentage (.205), while proving herself as a two-way player with 191 digs; the third most on the team and a number that shatters her previous career high of 69 digs in 2021.

As for Kennedy, the Rangers' steady defensive specialist is also having a career season with 418 digs, just five away from a new career high and the fifth highest total in the RMAC. Kennedy, the RMAC Defensive Player of the Week to end the regular season, also joined an exclusive club this past fall when she became just the 25th player in program history to eclipse 1,000 career digs.
