DENVER - The Regis University women's basketball team (10-14,6-11 RMAC) snapped their eight-game skid with a huge victory over the Western Colorado Mountaineers (10-11,8-8 RMAC) at the Regis Field House! Senior
Erin Stroberg's last-minute layup lifted Regis to the 67-66 victory.
How it Happened: The Rangers 40 percent (5-12) shooting from deep in the first half helped them own a two-point lead over WCU before the half.
A 7-2 run to open the third period extended RU's lead to 40-33, their largest lead of the night.
But with time winding down, the Mountaineers made it a one possession game with under a minute to play. A jumper from junior
Sam Deem with less than 30 seconds to play gave Regis a two-point lead, but WCU stormed down the court on their ensuing possession and hit a 3-pointer, taking the 66-65 lead.
The Rangers had one more opportunity to win the game. With just two seconds on the clock, graduate student
Tashika Burrell dished Stroberg a beautiful pass under the rim. Stroberg nailed the reverse layup, sealing the much needed win for the Rangers.
Game Notes: RU was 43 percent from the field (26-61) and 36 percent from the three (8-22) through the full 40 minutes played.
Freshman
Megan Pohs (7-14 FG, 5-10 3-PT) lit it up for a career-high 21 points off the bench.
Deem (6-9 FG, 1-1 3-PT) was right behind with 16 points and four boards.
Stroberg hit the game-winner plus had a team-high eight rebounds.
Up Next for the Rangers: Regis will return to action tomorrow when they square off against the Fort Lewis Skyhawks (2-19, 1-14 RMAC) at 4 p.m. at home
