TUCSON, Ariz. - The Regis University softball team (4-4, 0-0 RMAC) continued their tournament run in the Desert Stinger Classic Saturday afternoon in Tucson. Yesterday, the Rangers ended day one with a victory over San Francisco State University after falling to Chico State in the opener. Today, Regis got a huge walk-off victory over Northwest Nazarene in their first game, but was stifled by the No. 10 CUI Eagles' offensive prowess in game two.
Game One | How it Happened: Freshman pitcher
Kylie Harpman started in the circle for RU in game one versus Northwest Nazarene. The Nighthawks struck first when Mulligan stole home, but that was the only run the Rangers' defense would allow.
Regis matched the run quickly when freshman
Miia Campos reached home on an error, leveling the game at 1-1.
Dealing, Harpman rang up six batters before she was relieved in the fifth by sophomore
Katherine Raper.
Still locked at 1-1, the Rangers had one more chance in the bottom of the seventh to win the game in walk-off fashion.
With two outs and senior
Jessi Case in scoring position, graduate student
Allisha Martinez stepped up to the plate. Martinez drilled a double down the left field line, scoring Case and promptly ending the game at 2-1, Regis.
Game Notes: RU scored two runs off eight hits and had no errors.
Campos was 3-4 at the plate.
Martinez was a perfect 4-4 and the team's sole RBI.
Freshman
Rachel Williams had a team-high eight putouts while Case led with two assists.
Game Two | How it Happened: Regis' date with the Eagles didn't go as well though. After Case scored in the first inning to give the Rangers a 1-0 lead, CUI went off for 10-straight unanswered runs.
Three pitchers made appearances from RU's bullpen to try and slow the Eagles, but none could cool their hot bats.
RU would eventually get run-ruled in the bottom of the fifth and lost, 10-1.
Game Notes: Regis scored one run off three hits and had zero errors.
Freshman
Rachel Williams, Case and Campos were the only Rangers to register hits in the game.
Sophomore
Victoria McMains led RU with four putouts and Campos had a team-high three assists.
Up Next For The Rangers: Regis will wrap up the Desert Stinger tomorrow when they play the hosts, MSU Billings (4-6), at noon.
