DENVER - The Regis University softball team (29-20, 23-11 RMAC) celebrated Senior Day Saturday afternoon at the Regis Softball Field as the team played host to the MSU Denver Roadrunners (31-18, 19-13 RMAC). Regis, who sits in third place in the RMAC, split the twin bill with the fourth-ranked Roadrunners in the conference.
Game One | How it Happened: Freshman RHP Kylie
Harpman (W, 17-7) started in the circle in game one for the Rangers.
All of the Ranger's runs came in the second inning, but that was all they needed to best the Roadrunners.
Junior Shayelyn Allen's RBI single commenced scoring. Later in the inning with the bases loaded, Allen reached home after a MSU Denver error.
Senior Madison Flores' sac fly increased the team's lead to 3-0 before the second inning came to a close.
Harpman was absolutely on fire, sitting down Roadrunners left and right. She allowed just two runs through the entire game as she increased her record to 17-7 as the team held on to win the series opener.
Game Notes: Regis scored three runs off six hits and had two errors.
Harpman fanned 10 batters en route to her 17th win. MSU Denver was only able to register five hits versus Regis' ace.
Freshman Rachel Williams led RU at the dish with a two-for-three performance. She also had a game-high 11 putouts.
Seniors Carly Gray and Carly Beard celebrated Senior Day with a RBI a piece.
Game Two | How it Happened: The series closer saw junior RHP
Abby Covington (L, 4-5) start in the circle.
Regis took an early 3-0 lead after a productive second and third inning. Williams knocked a RBI double to center field to get things going for RU. Then, freshman Miia Campos' two RBI single brought in two more.
A solo home run from the Roadrunners in the fourth made the score 3-1, but another two RBI double from Williams and a RBI single from beard put Regis up 5-1.
However, MSU Denver embarked on a massive comeback in the sixth and seventh innings to pur thee Rangers on their heels. Six runs in the sixth and one run in the seventh from the away team left RU reeling.
Sophomore Katherine Raper's sac fly in the home half made the score 6-8, but that was all she wrote.
Game Notes: Regis scored six runs off 11 hits and had no errors.
Williams led at the plate again in game two, she was three-for-four and had a pair of RBI.
Raper was 2-2 and had one RBI.
Campos and Bead were 1-4 and had one RBI each.
Martinez led the team in putouts with four.
Up Next For The Rangers: The two teams will return to the diamond tomorrow for one last doubleheader. Game one is set to being at 11 a.m. and game two will start around 1 p.m.
