DENVER - The Regis University softball team (31-21, 25-12 RMAC) split their twin bill with the Fort Lewis Skyhawks (20-27, 20-18 RMAC) Friday afternoon at the Regis Softball Field. RU took the 'pitchers duel' of an opener by a margin of 2-0, but fell in game two 2-4.
Game One | How it Happened: Freshman RHP
Kylie Harpman (W, 19-7) started in the circle in game one for the Rangers.
The pitchers drew all of the attention in the series opener. Both Harpman and Amiee Shanks of FLC were pitching heat, but Harpman's six strikeouts proved to be the difference in the contest.
After a long six innings of minimal offense, senior Carly Gray finally got Regis on the board with a sacrifice fly, scoring freshman Lima Magana. Then in the seventh, freshman Miia Campos solidified the 2-0 final score when she scored on a Skyhawk error.
Harpman retired the final three outs in the home half of the seventh, sealing the win.
Game Notes: RU scored two runs off seven hits and had no errors.
Campos led in the batter's box, she was three-for-four.
Gray was 2-2 and had a RBI.
Harpman sat down six batters and allowed only four hits in her fifth complete-game shutout of the season.
Game Two | How it Happened: Game three saw Covington (L, 5-7) start in the circle.
The first run of the game came from graduate student Allisha Martinez when she knocked a massive triple to right center in the first.
However, FLC put up three runs in the second inning to take the lead.
Freshman Rachel Williams' solo shot over the fence put the Rangers within one, but the Skyhawks added an insurance run in the sixth and took the win.
Game Notes: Regis scored two runs off five hits and had four errors.
Campos was 2-4 to lead the team at the dish.
Martinez was 1-2 and had a RBI.
Williams was 1-3 and also had a RBI with her homer.
Covington allowed just two hits and three strikeouts in her complete game.
