Rangers hit over .400 as a team, sweep road matchup against Western Colorado

GUNNISON, Colo. — On Friday, in a five-set road win over Fort Lewis, the No. 20 ranked Regis University volleyball team struggled with efficiency. What a difference a day can make.

Propelled by an offense that hit over .400 for the evening, the Rangers rolled into Gunnison and swept the Western Colorado Mountaineers — 25-15, 25-21 and 25-17 — to extend the team's winning streak to seven.

HOW IT HAPPENED: Regis hit .402 as a team on Saturday, posting 42 kills versus just seven errors. Sophomore middle blocker Amelia Davis and junior outside hitter Halle Theis paced the Regis hitters with 11 kills apiece, with Theis hitting .286 and Davis finishing the evening with a staggering .625 hitting percentage.

Sophomore outside hitter Hannah Kepler and graduate student middle blocker Klaudia Sowizral rounded out the Rangers' balanced attack with seven kills apiece. Sowizral posted a season-best .538 attack percentage with the seven kills and no errors on 13 attempts.

Fresh off a triple-double in Friday's win, senior setter Mara LeGrand again filled the stat sheet with 31 assists, three kills, five block assists and seven digs.
Defensively, the Rangers were just as stingy as in their win against Fort Lewis as they limited Western Colorado to just 30 kills on the night on a pedestrian .165 hitting percentage.

Senior defensive specialist Haley Kennedy led all Rangers with nine digs Saturday, while LeGrand (7 digs), Theis (6 digs), and sophomore defensive specialist Bre Skala (5 digs) followed.

UP NEXT: The Rangers return home next week to host South Dakota School of Mines and Black Hills State University during Blue & Gold Weekend.
Regis gets the weekend started with a 5 p.m. match on Friday against S.D. Mines before hosting Black Hills at 3 p.m. Saturday on "Alumni Night" inside the Regis Fieldhouse.
