Rangers show strong start, but fall to UCCS on the road

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The Regis University men's soccer team played the University of Colorado-Colorado Springs on Thursday, dropping the match 3-1.

The Rangers (4-6-1 overall, 1-1-1 RMAC) won the shots battle against the Mountain Lions (7-1-3 overall, 2-0-1 RMAC) but fell short when finding the back of the net.

How It Happened: The Rangers' defense did not let the Mountain Lions anywhere near the goal line in the first forty-five minutes.

UCCS was only able to get six shots all first half and only two of those even remotely had a chance at scoring. Luca Falagrady took care of business and prevented the Mountain Lions from getting on the board.

In the shots battle, the Rangers triumphed over the Mountain Lions, outshooting them 19-14.

Graduate forward Kristian Hooker continued his hot streak in the 28th minute. The fifth-year scored his third goal in three matches and the lone goal for the Rangers on Thursday.

Hooker found the ball at the top of the 18-yard box after it deflected off a UCCS defender following a shot from Elias Taubo. The graduate student wasted no time and quickly buried the ball in the back of the net past an exasperated Mountain Lion goalkeeper.

Unfortunately for the Rangers, the momentum shifted in the other direction as the Mountain Lions fired three strikes in the second half. The Mountain Lions tied the game in the 50th minute with a goal from Kolby Raineri. UCCS continued their attack with a second goal in the 53rd and the insurance goal coming in the 79th minute.

Game Notes:

Up Next: The Rangers continue their RMAC season with a match against #15 CSU-Pueblo on Sunday, Oct. 2 at 3 pm.
