Ryan scores season-high 19 in 74-63 win over Chadron State College

DENVER, Colo. – Backed by a 19-point effort from senior guard Josey Ryan, the Regis University women's basketball team rang in the new year with a win after beating Chadron State College, 74-63 on Monday.

The Eagles (2-10 overall, 2-4 RMAC) took an early 3-1 lead in the first three minutes, but the Rangers (7-5 overall, 4-2 RMAC) put the brakes on Chadron State and did not surrender the lead for the rest of the afternoon. The Rangers are 11-1 against the Eagles when playing at the Regis Field House dating back to 2009.

How It Happened: The Rangers had all of the control on Monday as they led for a whopping 94.3 percent of game time.

The Eagles tried but were unsuccessful in getting the momentum to swing back their way in the beginning of the second half. Chadron State scored eight to Regis' five to put them within 12 in the first few minutes, but that was the closest the Eagles would get the rest of the game.

Ryan shot a team-high 56 percent (5-for-9) from three and 58 percent (7-for-12) in the paint.

Ryan wasn't alone in double-digit territory, however, as senior guard Sam Deem scored 17 while going 7-for-11 in the paint. The pair were also joined by junior guard Erin Fry notching another 17 points for the Rangers.

Game Notes:

  • The Rangers continue to dominate at the glass with 15 offensive rebounds to Chadron State's four
  • The two teams shot an almost identical game with Regis finishing 46 percent (29-for-63) from the field and Chadron State finishing at 43 percent (24-for-56)
  • Regis scored 14 second chance points and 11 fastbreak points
