Four Rangers earn First Team All-Academic, six student-athletes named to RMAC Honor Roll

| By:
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — The Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) announced Wednesday the First Team All-Academic and Honor Roll teams for the 2023 volleyball season, with a total of 10 Regis University student-athletes earning recognition.

To be eligible for First Team consideration, a student-athlete must carry a 3.50 cumulative grade point average (GPA) and must have been an active student at the institution for at least two consecutive semesters or three consecutive quarters. First Team All-Academic members were voted on by the conference's sports information directors for meeting those criteria, as well as demonstrating outstanding performance on the court. Student-athletes not voted to the First Team, and who carry a 3.30 cumulative GPA or higher, automatically qualified for Honor Roll.

The No. 9 ranked Rangers led all RMAC institutions with four First Team All-Academic winners in graduate student middle blocker Nadine Burbrink, graduate student setter Mara LeGrand, graduate student defensive specialist Haley Kennedy and junior middle blocker Amelia Davis.

Regis also had six additional student-athletes earn RMAC Honor Roll in graduate student Klaudia Sowizral, senior Lexie Curtis, senior Halle Theis, junior Hannah Kepler, junior Bre Skala and sophomore Isabella Smith.

Wednesday's announcement marked the second consecutive year Burbrink has earned First Team All-Academic honors, leading all Rangers with a spotless 4.0 GPA as a Project Management major.

On the court, Burbrink is enjoying a career year on both sides of the net as she is averaging career highs in kills per set (2.63), service aces (18), and hitting percentage (.327) while also posting career highs in blocks (131) and blocks per set (1.31) for a Regis squad that leads all Division II teams in blocks per set (2.84).

LeGrand is another repeat winner for the Rangers as she earned First Team All-Academic in 2021. The 2023 RMAC Tournament MVP is averaging 10.33 assists per set for a Regis team that leads the conference in hitting percentage (.265), nearly a kill per set and ranks second on the team in digs per set (2.76) through 29 matches played. Academically, LeGrand sports a 3.81 GPA as a Business Administration major.

Kennedy makes her First Team All-Academic debut with a 3.72 GPA as a Biological and Biomedical Sciences major. The Rangers' starting libero has already tied her career high with 40 aces this fall through 29 matches played and is averaging a team-best 3.98 digs per set.

As for Davis, in her first year eligible for the award, she earns her spot on First Team All-Academic with a 3.92 GPA as an Elementary Education major and as the top blocker in the conference with 1.33 blocks per set.

Offensively, Davis is hitting .294 with 220 kills so far in 2023 and is coming off a season-high 20 kills in last Saturday's RMAC Tournament championship win over No. 8 ranked MSU Denver.

In addition to the Rangers' four First Team All-Academic winners, Regis placed the following six student-athletes on Honor Roll:
