Rangers run down in Lubbock, Tex. for NCAA South Central Regional Championships

| By:
LUBBOCK, Tex. – The Regis University women's cross country team took part in the 2023 NCAA South Central Regional on Saturday.

"I would say that today was a little bit of a tough day in our 6K but I'm really proud of the women for their efforts. When you look back in the spring at the roster that we had and where we finished now, I'm really proud," said Regis cross country head coach, Evan Verbal.

Freshman Allie Braney paced all Rangers with a time of 23 minutes, 45.16 seconds and placed 98th overall.

"Allie got out pretty quick but was able to maintain pace and pass a lot of people in the last mile which is something we've been talking about all year. So it's really cool to see that all come together and have a nice 6K PR," said Verbal.

Braney's previous best 6K time was run on Sept. 30, 2023 at the Ted Castaneda Classic. At that event, she finished in 23:59.1.

As for the rest of the Rangers, the group finished one after the other starting redshirt freshman Julia Gerardo finished second for the Rangers with a 29:04.36 and crossed in 170th overall.

Gerardo shaved almost 37 seconds off of her personal best 6K time. Her best also came on Sept. 30, 2023 at the Ted Castaneda Classic with a time of 30:29.4.

Senior Grace McGettigan finished third for the squad with a time of 29:23.86 and placed 171st overall.

Abigail Blanner and Adrianna Ventura Hill rounded out the Rangers' runners as Blanner finished in 30:37.6 and Ventura-Hill finished in 34:40.30. The two also finished 172 and 173rd respectively.

With the 2023 season coming to a close, Verbal has his sights set on 2024. The women's team has a chance of returning almost every member which Verbal says is incredible encouraging.

"I think that so many of us are very new and so I'm excited about having another year under our belts going into the next cross country season. I'm also excited to be with them in the offseason and make sure that we prepare ourselves well. I'm feeling really positive going into next year," said Verbal.
