COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The Regis University women's basketball team headed south in a rare midweek matchup against the University of Colorado-Colorado Springs Mountain Lions on Tuesday.
Four different Rangers scoring in double figures and a blistering 24 points in the fourth quarter pushed the Regis Rangers (19-6 overall, 16-3 RMAC) past a pesky Mountain Lion team (9-16 overall, 8-11 RMAC), 73-56.
"We didn't rebound the ball well at all in the first half and that was our message coming out of halftime on both ends of the court," said Regis head women's basketball coach, Molly Marrin. "We knew we needed to do a better job taking up matchups in transition and we stepped up to the challenge and adjusted which helped us get our offense going in the third."
How It Happened: The Rangers looked to continue their reign as the #1 team in the RMAC on Tuesday and did so in stellar offensive fashion that featured double-digit performances from four different Rangers.
Third-year guard Erin Fry and senior forward Sam Deem both ended the night with 17 points apiece with Fry going 6-for-9 (.667) from the field and Deem going 3-for-4 (.750) from behind the arc.
Up by three at the half, the Rangers cracked open the lead with a 10-6 run triggered by a layup from senior Morgan L. Smith which had the Rangers up by seven going into the sole media timeout in the third.
By the time the fourth quarter rolled around, the Rangers were up by four and continued to pour it on as the Rangers' offense erupted for 24 points off three three-pointers and nine shots from the field to end the night at 73-56.
Supporting its offensive efforts was a defensive Ranger squad that limited its turnovers to 10, while going up against a team whose opponents average 18 turnovers per game. In addition, the Rangers' 28 rebounds featured 23 defensive boards, led by Deem with eight.
Regis' efforts also featured its second-highest number of steals on the season with 12.
"Our identity is rooted in our ability to rebound and has been an integral part of our success," said Marrin. "Unfortunately, we didn't rebound as well as we'd like but this team is competitive and they like to be challenged. We will take that as a new challenge for Saturday."
Joining Deem and Fry in double-figures was sophomore guard Athena Saragoza with 11, and graduate student forward Erin Stroberg with 15. Saragoza shot a perfect 3-for-3 from the free throw line while Stroberg shot a season-high 7-for-8 (.875) from the floor.

Up Next: The Rangers will play their final home game of the season on Saturday, Feb. 18 against Western Colorado University at 5:00 P.M.
Regis will honor its six graduating players – Stroberg, Deem, Ryan, Foster, Smith, and Speights – prior to tip off on Saturday evening.
"Western plays really hard and has played some top teams very close so we will need to be ready and the aggressor on both ends," said Marrin. "We will have six seniors walking so it's a huge day for us. I'm excited to honor how amazing of an impact they have had on the Regis program."
