HOUSTON, Tex. – The Regis University softball team continued its opening weekend down in Texas with a pair of games against Texas A&M International and #18 Angelo State University.
The Rangers (0-4 overall) were able to utilize four different pitchers across the two games but ultimately fell short.
Game One | How It Happened (TAMIU):
Vanessa Candito started in the circle for the Rangers but Katherine Raper (L, 0-1) took over in the third while senior Abby Covington finished out the game for the last two innings.
The Rangers started out fast in the first inning with graduate student infielder Jessi Case opening the game with a single up the middle. After stealing second, a throwing error by TAMIU's catcher sent her to second.
Sophomore Rachel Williams took care of business and was able to score Case off a groundout to second base.
Unfortunately for the Rangers, TAMIU answered with its own run in the bottom of the first and added four more runs through the bottom of the fifth to make the score 5-1.
In the top of the seventh, freshman Sienna Reed sparked the Regis offense with a single to left field. Fellow freshman Megan Clark made her debut as a Ranger and capitalized on Regis' newfound momentum and drove a double back to left field, moving Reed to third.
Pinch hitter Abby Larsen would provide even more momentum as she singled and advanced to second on the throw and earned two RBIs as Reed and Clark both scored on Larsen's hit.
However, that would be all the runs the Rangers could put together in the top of the seventh as TAMIU earned the win.
