COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The Regis Rangers blew the doors off down south on Saturday, with both of their wins coming in six innings or less.
The Rangers (14-10 overall, 11-3 RMAC) took Game One, 10-1 in six innings while taking Game Two against the Mountain Lions (6-17 overall, 3-11 RMAC), 16-7 in five innings.
"I am so proud of this team today," said Regis softball head coach, Nicole Thompson. "We worked really hard this week to be great in all aspects. We did that, our bats were hot and timely, pitching was good and defense was solid."
Game One | How It Happened: The Rangers had no problem getting on the board in Game One with two home runs in the second for a total of six RBIs. Both sophomore infielder Miia Campos and senior infielder Shayelyn Allen hit her first of the season for four of the six RBIs.
Graduate student infielder Jessi Case was the star of the show in the top of the sixth inning. The Loveland-native hit both a triple and a home run of her own to score another 3 RBIs for the Rangers in addition to an unearned run for four total runs in the half inning.
The Mountain Lions would only score one run in the bottom of the sixth from a home run.
"We wanted to put the pressure on them early and often," said Thompson. "We wanted to stay consistent with our approaches that we have had all year and then capitalize on the timely hits to produce runs."
Game Notes:
- Jessi Case led all Rangers in hits with three
- Regis' three home runs is their most this season
- Sophomore right-hander Kylie Harpman earned her fifth win of the season
Game Two | How It Happened: Game Two was no different than its predecessor as the Rangers totaled four hits in the top of the first inning alone.
Senior infielder Shayelyn Allen was the star of the show in that half inning as she hit her second home run of the day to push three runs across the plate. The Rangers finished the top of the first with a total of eight runs.
The top of the fifth inning was another explosive half-inning for the Rangers as both sophomore infielder Miia Campos and sophomore utility Rachel Williams hit a couple over the wall for five runs collectively.
By the time the Mountain Lions recorded their three outs in the bottom of the fifth, they had only pushed a total of seven runs across the board as Regis secured yet another run-rule win.
Game Notes:
"Campos had a day at the plate along with Allen," said Thompson about the two games. "It was great to see Case keep setting the tone for us, along with Abby [Larsen] and Olivia [Wick] keeping the middle of our lineup so dangerous.
Up Next: The Regis Rangers finish their series against the Mountain Lions on Sunday. Fist pitch is scheduled for 11 a.m.
"Our mindset and mission stays the same. Both teams start 0-0 again tomorrow. So we need to come out with the same intensity and focus," said Thompson.
