DENVER, Colo. – In two games that came down to their final outs, the Regis University softball team split the two games on day one against Fort Lewis College.
The Rangers (15-12 overall, 12-6 RMAC) took Game One after a game-ending error pushed Regis' walk-off run across the plate to win, 5-4. The Skyhawks (9-16 overall, 7-11 RMAC) took Game Two, 6-5, after their centerfielder threw the tying run out at the plate.
Game One | How It Happened: The Rangers got on board quickly in the first inning thanks to a RBI double from sophomore catcher Rachel Williams, but the Skyhawks answered back with three of their own in the third to make it, 3-1, after the half inning.
Regis wasted no time in taking the lead back, ending the fifth, 5-4, following a three-RBI half-inning after Sienna Reed pushed a run across after getting on base with a walk, and senior infielder Shayelyn Allen singled down the left field line to score two.
The Skyhawks set the stage for a walk-off win after tying it, 4-4, in the top of the seventh, but graduate student Hannah Sisul called the game after reaching thanks to an error from Fort Lewis' third baseman that allowed sophomore pinch runner Lima Magana to score the game-winning run.
Game Notes:
Game Two | How It Happened: The Skyhawks jumped to a 4-1 lead after a three-run third inning but the Rangers battled back to tie the game at 4-4 in the fourth inning.
Graduate student infielder Jessi Case singled and reached on a throwing error from shortstop. That same throwing error allowed three runs to cross the plate for the Rangers.
A Campos single up the middle scored Case, but the Skyhawks answered with two runs of their own to set up a game-tying opportunity for freshman pinch hitter Megan Clark.
Clark singled up the middle, but Sisul was thrown out at home by center field to give the Skyhawks the 6-5 win.
