Rangers collect 10 hits, drop both games to Roadrunners

DENVER, Colo. – In their last home weekend of the 2023 season, the Regis softball team hosted the Metropolitan State University Roadrunners but fell short in both games.

The Rangers (28-20 overall, 25-13 RMAC) accumulated five hits in both Game One and Game Two, but fell to the Roadrunners (28-19 RMAC, 24-12 RMAC), 5-1 in Game One, and 9-1 in Game Two.

Game One | How It Happened: Regis' five hits came from five different Rangers, but only sophomore utility Abby Larsen was able to push a run across the plate thanks to a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the sixth.

The Roadrunnes plated their five runs in second and third innings from a two-run and three-run home run.

Sophomore right-hander Kylie Harpman started in the circle for the Rangers. Harpman finished the game with nine strikeouts.

Game Two | How It Happened: The Roadrunners could not be stopped as they scored four runs in the fourth inning and the remaining five in the fifth and sixth innings.

The Rangers got on the board in the bottom of the third as freshman outfielder Olivia Wick singled to shortstop.

Freshman Vanessa Candito got the start in the second game and finished after 3.1 innings. Senior Abby Covington and junior Katherine Raper threw 0.2 and 2.0 innings respectively.

Up Next: The Rangers conclude their four-game series against the Roadrunners on Monday. First pitch is scheduled for 12 p.m.

Notes: Following the doubleheader on Saturday, the Regis University Deparment of Athletics and softball program honored four seniors and graduate students expected to graduate during the 2022-2023 school year.

Those players included Covington, Shayelyn Allen, Jessi Case, and Hannah Sisul.
