No. 18 Rangers fall to tournament hosts No. 19 CSU San Bernardino

SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. — The No. 18 ranked Regis University volleyball team made a valiant comeback attempt, but was unable to overcome a slow start Friday during Day Two of the Yotes Classic Showcase, falling by a 3-1 final to tournament hosts, No. 19 ranked California State University-San Bernardino.

Regis (2-1 overall) posted an attacking percentage over .500 in the third and fourth sets Friday, finishing at an early season high of .274 for the match, but were unable to slow down a red hot Coyotes squad (3-0 overall) that hit at a .344 clip on the evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED
CSU San Bernardino took control of the match early, earning set victories of 25-16 and 25-18 before the Rangers' offense was able to gain traction.

Regis stormed back to win the third set, 25-19, after posting a blistering hitting percentage of .560 (16 kills, two errors). Graduate student right-side hitter Klaudia Sowizral rattled off six of her team-high 13 kills in the third set and led all Regis players with a .417 hitting percentage.

The Rangers continued that momentum into Set Four, opening on a 5-0 run capped off by an ace from junior defensive specialist, Bre Skala.

Unfortunately for Regis, the Coyotes — led by a 22-kill performance from Trinity Sheridan — stormed back to tie the match again at 14-14, then followed with a 4-0 burst to take an 18-14 lead and recapture the momentum en route to a 25-22 win that sealed the 3-1 final.

  • Senior outside hitter Halle Theis and junior middle blocker Amelia Davis helped pace the Regis offense with nine kills and eight kills, respectively.

  • CSU San Bernardino finished with a 60-44 edge in total kills.
  • Each team finished the match with 11 aces.
