Rangers take on cross-town rival CCU in non-conference matchup

LAKEWOOD, Colo. – The Regis University men's soccer team took on their cross-town rival on Wednesday evening, taking on the Colorado Christian University Cougars in a non-conference matchup.

Regis (2-4-1 overall) pushed hard with offensive pressure throughout the 90 minutes, but were unable to find the back of the net as they fell to the Cougars (2-1-3 overall), 1-0.

How It Happened: The Rangers came out fast at the beginning of the match, with junior forward Rayhan Carlson-Du Toit firing a shot off in the first four minutes.

Both teams would trade blows for the remaining 40 minutes. Regis' best chance came in the 18th minute as freshman Liam Corr missed just barely as CCU's Michel Pinoncely made the save.

Within the last 10 seconds of the first half, the Cougars threatened with a hard shot to the lower right area of the goal, but junior goalkeeper Greg Squire dove clear across the goal and was completely stretched out to make the save.

The only goal of the game towards the end of the 58th minute from an uncontested shot by CCU's Daniel Garciacano.

Playing a man down after the 68th minute, the Rangers' defense stepped up and only allowed three shots from the Cougars for the rest of the match. Regis was also able to get three shots while playing a man down but were unable to score.

Game Notes:

Up Next: The Rangers host Colorado Mesa University on Friday in another non-conference matchup. Kickoff is set for 7PM.
