Athena Saragoza, Madison Diercks sweep RMAC Player of the Week honors for first time in program history

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference announced its weekly RMAC Player of the Week awards on Monday, with Regis sweeping both awards for the first time in program history.

For the RMAC's Week Nine awards, junior guard Athena Saragoza was named the Offensive Player of the Week while senior guard Madison Diercks was named the Defensive Player of the Week.

Monday's announcement marks the first Player of the Week honors for either player this season.

Saragoza averaged 24.5 PPG over the weekend including a crucial 20 points in Friday's 93-74 win over the #6/7 Colorado School of Mines.

The Santa Barbara-native shot a staggering 51.3% (19-for-37) from the floor and was a force beyond the arc as she shot 10-for-20 (50%), including a season-high six makes in the game against MSU Denver on Saturday.

The third-year's three-point performance over the weekend ranks her fourth in the RMAC in three-point field goal percentage (38.1%) while she is also ranked third in three-point field goals per game (2.9/G).

Madison Diercks | Sr. | Guard

Diercks has quickly cemented herself as Regis' go-to rebounder as the Illinois-native has a total of 129 rebounds on the season and is averaging 7.6 RPG.

In the upset win over the Colorado School of Mines, Diercks finished second in rebounds with eight while leading the squad in rebounds against MSU Denver with 11.

Not just Regis' leading rebounder, Diercks also corralled two steals and one block over the weekend.

The fourth-year's 7.6 RPG performance ranks her seventh in the RMAC.

The Rangers continue conference play this weekend with games against Colorado Christian University and Chadron State College on Friday and Saturday, respectively.
