DENVER, Colo. – The Regis University Women's Volleyball team snapped a three-game losing streak on Monday night as they defeated Colorado School of Mines, 3-2 (25-21, 25-17, 16-25, 23-25, 15-11). The Rangers improve to 12-12 (8-4 RMAC) on the year, while the Orediggers fall to 9-15 (5-7 RMAC).
HOW IT HAPPENED
Regis would score the first three points of the match, behind an Amelia Davis kill and back-to-back Giselle Cazares service aces. The Orediggers were able to battle back to take a 10-9 lead, but a Davis took over, scoring four straight points on her own, including a solo block and three kills. Bre Skala aced a serve, and Braiziah Dixon blocked two attacks, one assisted by Halle Theis and the other by Reagan Hickey. Late in the set, Theis put down two kills to win, 25-21.
Davis assisted a Bryn McNair kill to start the second and Hickey put down a kill, as Regis' spread out offense built an 8-3 lead. However, CSM was able to respond and take the lead, 13-11. McNair ended the run, and after Mines tied the set at 17-17, Theis' kill started a run that would end the set, 25-17 behind two Lindsey Cure kills and two Dixon blocks.
Theis had the first four kills of the third set for RU, while Cure added two more. However, after an error gave the Rangers a 9-4 lead, the Orediggers scored 10 unanswered. While Hickey posted a kill and Davis-assisted block, CSM stayed in control and claimed the 25-16 win.
Dixon led the Rangers early in the fourth set, with a kill, a solo block, and a Cure-assisted block. After falling behind, 12-15, Cure had a pair of kills, and assisted a block with Davis, who then had two more kills of her own. Dixon then tied the set at 23-23, but CSM held on to win, 25-23.
In the deciding final set, Theis led Regis with three early kills, and Dixon then took over, scoring three straight with a kill, and two Cure-assisted blocks. Davis then assisted a block with Cure, followed by a kill. Krissy Brei recorded an ace to go up, 14-9, and Davis ended the set and match with a kill, 15-11.
GAME NOTES
· Theis led all players with 18 kills, while Davis (12), Cure (12), and Dixon (10) all reached double digits as well.
· Hickey had a game-high 47 assists
· Skala posted 21 digs, and Brei added 15
· Dixon recorded eight blocks, while Davis and Cure each had seven
· Hannah Kinnison had a double-double for the Orediggers (11 K, 13 D)
