DENVER, Colo. – The Regis University Volleyball team advanced to the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Tournament Semifinals with a 3-1 (25-20, 25-18, 21-25, 26-24) win over Colorado State University Pueblo on Tuesday night. The Rangers improve to 16-11 (9-5 RMAC) on the year, while the Thunderwolves end their 2024 campaign at 14-13 (9-5 RMAC).
Regis will travel to No. 1 Seed MSU Denver on Friday, Nov. 22.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Regis jumped out to a 7-2 lead in the first set behind a pair of Halle Theis kills and a Reagan Hickey service ace, and extended that to 12-5 following a Braiziah Dixon ace. Krissy Brei joined in with back-to-back aces of her own while a solo block from Dixon brought the score to 19-1111. Pueblo was able to go on an 8-3 run, but it was not enough as the rangers ended the first set on a Bryn McNair kill an Amelia Davis-Theis block.
The Thunderwolves built a 7-4 advantage to start the second, but Lindsey Cure assisted a Dixon block, then put down a kill of her own followed by back-to-back kills from McNair, then two from Davis as RU took the 12-9 advantage. Theis sparked a 5-0 run that saw a Bre Skala ace and a flurry of blocks late in the set helped lift the rangers to a 25-18 win.
CSUP scored the first two points of the fourth set and after going up 7-5, errors and kills from McNair, Davis and Hickey brought the score to 10-7. However, Pueblo was able to respond with the run of their own going 9-2 to take the 18-13 lead. A trio of lake kills from Davis were not enough to overcome the deficit and CSUP took the third 25-21.
The team's traded points early in the fourth set until Cure's kill, and three straight Davis blocks put them up 14-9. Dixon and McNair added yet another block, but after Davis's kill put Regis ahead 21-16, the Thunderwolves were able to rally, and even the score at 24-24. However, Theis put down a kill and Dixon's service ace was the nail on the coffin for the 26-24 win.
