Eisa notches double-double, but Rangers fall to BHSU to conclude road trip

SPEARFISH, S.D. — Squaring off against a surging Black Hills State University squad, a late second-half dry spell would prove to be the difference for the Regis University men's basketball team as it fell to the Yellow Jackets, 75-63, inside the Donald E. Young Center.

With the loss, the Rangers (13-12 overall, 10-9 RMAC) had their three-game road winning streak come to an end and had to settle for a split on their South Dakota road trip, while the win moved Black Hills State (13-11 overall, 11-7 RMAC) into fourth place in the RMAC standings with two weeks remaining in the regular season.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Regis played toe-to-toe with the Yellow Jackets in the first half, leading by as many as seven points at 26-19 with 6:10 following a 3-pointer from redshirt junior guard Eddy Egun for three of his team-high 17 points.

BHSU rallied back to close the half on a 17-7 run to take a narrow 36-33 lead into the break.

The two RMAC rivals continued to trade jabs in the second half, with neither team holding a lead larger than five points through the half's opening 10 minutes.

Holding a 55-54 lead at 10:52 mark following two free throws from junior CJ Reed, the Rangers' offense would suddenly go cold.

The Yellow Jackets, aided by 23 second-half points by the RMAC's leading scorer in Matthew Ragsdale, took advantage as they rattled off a 16-3 run over the next six minutes to take their first double-digit lead of the ballgame, 70-58, with 4:10 remaining.

Hampered by 33 percent shooting (11-for-33) in the second half, the Rangers would be unable to mount a comeback as Black Hills State held on for the 75-63 final.
