Box Score LAS VEGAS, NM – Looking to bounce back from Friday night, the Regis University women's basketball team rebounded in explosive fashion on Saturday, defeating the New Mexico Highlands University Cowgirls, 79-55.
Graduate student guard Josey Ryan took charge for the Rangers (17-4 overall, 12-3 RMAC) and led in just about every category. The La Vista-native scored 23 points, grabbed a team-high eight rebounds, and a team-high seven steals against the Cowgirls (4-17 overall, 3-12 RMAC).
"Tonight's performance is a huge credit to our group for bouncing back after a tough road loss last night to come out with a focused and defensive mindset," said Regis women's basketball head coach, Molly Marrin.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Almost every Ranger contributed points on Saturday night, with Ryan leading all with her 23 points.
Ryan shot 50% from the floor (6-for-12) and 40% from beyond the arc while nailing nine of her 10 trips to the free throw line.
"I praised Josey for an excellent all around game. But honestly she's been playing at an exceptional level for the last few weeks," said Marrin. "She does so many things for us on the court but what doesn't show up in the stat book is her leadership off the court. I'm really proud of her."
The Cowgirls jumped to a 6-5 lead at the 4:19 mark in the first, but the Rangers answered with a 11-2 run to close out the first quarter and did not give up the lead for the rest of the game.
In every quarter, the Cowgirls scored more points than the last, but even a 22-point fourth quarter wasn't enough to overcome a deficit that had inflated to as many as 30 points at the 8:40 mark thanks to a layup from senior forward, Olivia Pitrof.
