DENVER, Colo. – The Regis University Volleyball team showed out in front of a crowd of Ranger volleyball alumni on Saturday afternoon, beating New Mexico Highlands University 3-0 (25-16, 25-15, 25-11).
The Rangers improve to 5-7 (3-1 RMAC) on the year, while the Cowgirls fall to 2-9 (1-3 RMAC).
HOW IT HAPPENED
The teams traded points to start the first set, with the Rangers being led by two kills apiece from Braiziah Dixon and Amelia Davis. Reagan Hickey would tip over a kill of her own to go up, 9-6, and after Bryn McNair and Davis assisted a block, the Rangers started to pull away. Cowgirl errors and a Halle Theis kill brought the score to 20-13, and Dixon score four of the final five points with three kills and a McNair-assisted block.
In the second, a solo block form Davis sparked a 9-0 run that was highlighted by another solo block, three Theis kills, and one from Hickey. Skala aced a pair of serves as RU extended the lead to 17-5, and Lindsey Cure and Brooke Sanford both contributed kills before Davis ended the set, 25-15.
Hickey had a service ace to lead off the third set, and after back-to-back kills by Davis, Dixon score three straight with two kills and a block assisted by Cure. Cure then added a kill of her own, and McNair added two for the 16-8 lead. Regis scored the last six points of the match, including two aces from Giselle Cazares and a block by Taya Blankenship-Poydras.
Head Coach Joel List had this to say after the match: "I was really happy that we were able to focus in on the match today against a Highlands tam that can give up problems. We had alumni and youth campers here to day, which is a lot of fun, but can cause distractions."
"Additionally," he added, "its great when really the entire team is able to get in the game and make contributions to the win.
