DENVER, Colo. – The Regis University Women's Volleyball fell to the University of Colorado Colorado Springs at home Friday night, 0-3 (20-25, 13-25, 17-25). The Rangers fall to 1-16 (1-6 RMAC), while the Mountain Lions improve to 15-2 (6-1 RMAC).
HOW IT HAPPENED
Both teams came out with a spread-out offensive attack, trading points early in the set. Braziah Dixon and
Bailey Nichols sparked momentum for the Rangers with a pair of kills to take a 9-7 lead, but UCCS battled back to even the score at 14-all. Dixon and
Isabella Smith responded with back-to-back kills to push Regis ahead 20-17. However, the Mountain Lions rallied with a five-point run to close out the set, 25-21.
Regis opened the second set strong, jumping out to a 6-3 lead behind kills from
Sabrina Landman and
Bailey Nichols. UCCS quickly flipped the momentum with a seven-point run to go ahead 13-8. Landman reignited the Ranger offense, helping tie the score at 17-all, before
Isabella Smith sealed the set with a decisive kill as RU claimed a 25-23 win.
The Mountain Lions responded in the third set, racing to a 9-4 lead. Despite kills from
Kendal Allaire and Landman, UCCS extended its advantage to 18-8. A late kill from
Jacie Kaniho wasn't enough to spark a comeback, as the Rangers dropped the set 25-10.
Carrying their momentum into the fourth, UCCS took an early 7-3 lead. Smith and
Brooke Sanford fueled a four-point run for Regis to pull ahead 15-14, but despite late efforts from Dixon and Smith, the Rangers came up short, falling 25-21 in the final set.
GAME NOTES
Dixon led RU with 11 kills, followed by Smith with 10.
Nichols dished 37 assists for the Rangers.
Aaliyah Rodrakkwan recorded 12 digs.
Krissy Brei had two aces.
