RAPID CITY, SD. – The Regis University Men's Soccer team traveled to South Dakota Mines for an RMAC matchup on Sunday afternoon, and left with a 3-1 win. The Rangers improve to 3-3-2 (1-0-0 RMAC, while the Hardrockers drop to 5-2-2 (0-2-0 RMAC).
HOW IT HAPPENED
The first shot of the match would come five minutes in by Elias Taubo. It was blocked, leading to an RU corner, but nothing came of it. Mines took their first shot 15 minutes later, missing high, and Jacobo Betancourt-Tovar would do the same on the other end. Just past the 30' mark, the Hardrockers fired a shot off a rebound, and scored the first goal of the match. Betancourt-Tovar put another shot high, and Zach Jennings saved a shot to end the half.
Sahar Golov and Betancourt-Tovar pushed the offense early in the second, but it would be Jason Robles that got the Rangers on the board, bending a corner kick in for the score. A near miss by Ignacio Bellina hit the post, but Ben Wittenbernds was able to set up a free kick after a Mines card, sending the ball from midfield to Julian Fally's header, who beat a leaping keeper for the go-ahead goal. The Rangers did not take the foot off the gas, as with three minutes left Blaise Richard pushed the ball from midfield, and when his kick was deflected, Rayhan Carlson-Du Toit was there to finish and put RU up for good, 3-1.
GAME NOTES
· Robles was the only player in the match with multiple shots on goal with two
