DENVER, Colo. – The Regis University Men's Soccer team battled Colorado State University-Pueblo, ranked #11 in the most recent United Soccer Coaches Top 25 Poll, in a home RMAC matchup Thursday night, and drew with the Thunderwolves, 2-2. The Rangers move to 3-3-3 (1-0-1 RMAC) on the year, while CSUP stands at 4-0-7 (0-0-3 RMAC).
The teams also tied, 3-3, in a non-conference match-up in Pueblo two weeks ago.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Thunderwolves did not take long to get on the board, as Matty Parks scored 5 minutes and five seconds into the match on the first shot of the match. The teams were getting eager early, trading offsides penalties and a pair of corner kicks. Blaise Richard took the first shot for the Rangers, followed closely by Elias Taubo and Sahar Golov. After his second shot, a Thunderwolf foul set up a penalty kick for Taubo at 41:20, which he would convert, sending the match into the break even, 1-1.
In the 60th minute, Kaden Cameron lined up a corner kick, and Cole Martin headered in the goal for his first career score. Ignacio Bellina landed a shot on goal before Zach Jennings saved back-to-back attempts by Pueblo. However, at 73:32, the Thunderwolves were able to sneak in the equalizer on a deflected pass. Jacobo Betancourt-Tovar and Rayhan Carlson Du-Toit both had late shots, but both were out top left, and the match ended in a draw.
"We would have loved to get the three points, but at the end of the day, that is a really good Pueblo team," said Head Coach Taylor Diem. "We just have to be a bit more clinical around the net, and see out the last 15 minutes a little better."
"We just have to believe in our identity, and stick to it late in games."
