CHADRON, Nebr- The Regis University Volleyball team fell on the road to Chadron State Tuesday night, 3-2 (27-29, 25-21, 19-25, 25-22, 16-14 ). The Rangers move to 4-21 (3-9 RMAC) on the season, while the Eagles improve to 5-20 (1-12 RMAC).
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Rangers would jump out to an early 9-2 lead, fueled by kills from
Isabella Smith.
Sabrina Landman and Nichols Bailey continued the momentum, jumping out to a 17-11 lead over the Eagles. However, Chadron State would go on a run of their own, tying the set at 19-19.
Braiziah Dixon would record a couple of kills for RU, but it wasn't enough as the Rangers would fall 27-29.
To start the second set, both teams would trade points; however, Landman and
Kendal Allaire would give the Rangers a 9-6 advantage. Smith and Dixon kept the fire going with key kills extending the lead, 17-10. Chadron State would make a late run of their own; however, Allaire and Smith sealed the set with a pair of kills, securing the 25-21 win for the Rangers.
The Eagles would start the third set with a 7-3 lead. Brooke Stanford started the momentum for RU with a kill, followed by Landman, but the Eagles still lead 15-8. Allaire and Nichols helped fuel a late push for Regis, but the comeback fell short as the Rangers dropped the set, 19-25.
Dixon and Sanford started the scoring for the Rangers, Nichols and Smith added two more kills, set four tied 9-9. Both teams went back and forth in a hard-fought battle for momentum, with Landman and Smith contributing key kills to tie the match at 18-18. Landman would get another kill for RU, and
Aaliyah Rodrakkwan sealed the set with an ace as the Rangers closed out the fourth, 25-22.
Smith started the fifth with two back-to-back kills, and Sanford added one to tie the match 7-7. Landman and Allaire added two more kills for RU, and Nichols teamed up with Landman to seal the deal as the Rangers clinched the match with a 16-14 victory.
GAME NOTES
Smith led RU with 19 kills, and Landman followed with 15 kills.
Nichols totaled 56 assists.
Dixon totaled 5 blocks.
Lauryn Uyemura recorded 19 digs.
