DENVER, Colo - The Regis University Women's Basketball team fell in their third game of the season to Rogers State University on Monday Night. The Rangers continue on at 0-3 while the Hillcats improve to 2-3.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Rogers State opened the game on a 7–0 run before Jessica Bollwahn put the Rangers on the board with a layup she created off her own defensive rebound. Mary Crossland followed with a three-pointer, and Kaylin Venick added a jumper to pull Regis within striking distance at 13–7. Venick later connected from deep, and Crossland closed the quarter with a steal and a layup, cutting the deficit to just two. The Rangers trailed 15–13 after the first.
Caitlin Turnbow scored the first two baskets of the second quarter, keeping Regis within a possession at 19–17. Venick buried another triple, but the Hillcats responded with a seven-point burst to go up 28–21. Savanna Staff snapped the run with a layup, and Turnbow added two free throws, but Rogers State carried the momentum into halftime as the Rangers fell behind 37–25.
Regis came out of the locker room energized, posting ten quick points fueled by big plays from Bollwahn and Turnbow to pull within seven at 42–35. Turnbow then found Crossland for another three, but the Hillcats countered with a 10–0 run to close the third quarter ahead 57–39.
Crossland opened the fourth with a fast break layup off her own steal, and Crossland knocked down a three to keep the Rangers pushing. Staff and Venick each added jumpers, but the comeback fell short as Regis dropped the contest 68–48.
GAME NOTES
Crossland led RU with 13 points, followed by Venick's 12.
Bollwahn grabbed 11 rebounds and added four steals.
Allison recorded two blocks.
The Hillcats shot 27.3% from three while the Rangers shot 24%.
