Griffins Edge Rangers in Tight Sets

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah- The Regis University Volleyball team fell to Westminster University Friday night, 0-3 (20-25, 13-25, 19-25). The Rangers move to 3-20 (2-9 RMAC) on the season, while the Griffins improve to 14-9 (6-5 RMAC). 

HOW IT HAPPENED  

Isabella Smith and Braiziah Dixon opened the scoring for Regis, while two service aces from Bailey Nichols helped even the first set at 9-9. Westminster responded with a four-point run, but Nichols delivered another ace to keep the Rangers close. Smith tallied the final kill of the set, though the Griffins held on to take it 25-20. 

Westminster carried that momentum into the second, jumping out to a quick 9-3 advantage. Brooke Sanford halted the run with a kill, followed by another from Sabrina Landman, but the Griffins extended their lead to 14-7. Kendal Allaire added a key block for Regis, though Westminster closed out the set 25-13. 

Regis came out strong in the third, sparking a six-point run to go ahead 9-6. Nichols notched back-to-back kills, with Dixon and Alayna Pruitt adding points to push the lead to 15-9. Westminster battled back to tie things up at 18-18, then finished on a six-point surge to claim the set 25-19 and the match. 

GAME NOTES  

Dixon led RU with seven kills and Smith followed with six.  

Nichols dished 15 assists.  

Krissy Brei totaled 12 digs.  

Dixon recorded three blocks for Regis.

The Rangers continue their road weekend in Grand Junction Colorado to face the Mavericks Saturday at 5pm.
