Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Rangers Rally in Second Half, Advance to RMAC Semifinals

DENVER, Colo. – The Regis University Men's Soccer team defeated Colorado Mesa University, 3-1, on Sunday afternoon in the Quarterfinal Round of the 2025 RMAC Championship Tournament. The No. 3 seeded Rangers improve to 9-5-4 on the year, while the No. 6 seeded Mavericks fall to 8-7-3.

HOW IT HAPPENED

CMU started the match with three quick shots, but none were on target. Jason Robles took the first shot of the match for the Rangers, landing it on goal. 20 seconds later, the Mavericks responded with the first goal of the game, as Stefanos Christodoulakis centered the ball to Nathan Hernandez. Robles and Jacobo Betancourt-Tovar both added shots on goal, as Zach Jennings added a save, but the Rangers were held scoreless. Over the final 15 minutes of the half, the RU defense allowed just two shots, one saved by Jennings, while Julian Fally and Elias Taubo landed shots on goal.

Regis started the second half with two quick shots before Blaise Richard scored on a pass from Robles that snuck between three defenders. At 62:03, the Mavericks lined up for a penalty kick, but Jennings had a huge save to keep the game knotted up at 1-1.

"Zach has been great all season," said Head Coach Taylor Diem, "it was a huge moment in the game, you could feel the difference over the last 30 or so minutes. Big credit to him, and the guys that got the rebound out of there"

In the 65th minute, Robles fired a pass into the box from 30 yards out that Taubo hit with his chest into the goal to go up, 2-1. The game got contested late, with a Maverick receiving a red card. The Rangers used the man-up advantage, with Robles stealing the ball, and firing a pass ahead to Johan Murillo, who completed the break with a goal. RU did not let up early, with four more shots over the last 10 minutes, two of which were saved.

"It was a bit disappointing and uncharacteristic to concede a goal so early," said Diem, "but the talk at halftime was about how we had had good looks and controlled much of the game."

"Jason (Robles) has been a great addition for us this year, he's a great presence in the locker room," added Diem. "He's really been clicking lately, and there's no better time for him to step up like he has."
