DENVER, Colo. – The Regis University Men's Basketball team suffered a loss on Saturday afternoon to the University of Nebraska Kearney, 87-73. The Rangers fall to 1-7 (0-3 RMAC) on the year, while the Lopers improve to 7-5 (0-2 MIAA).
HOW IT HAPPENED
Jansen Planansky opened the scoring for the Rangers, followed by back-to-back layups from
Cooper Frith and
Gunner Walters. Planansky later completed a three-point play, and
Logan Flores-Peoples knocked down a pair of free throws to tie the game at 21–21. Nebraska Kearney responded by seizing momentum with a seven-point run before
Matt Yost stopped the surge with a layup. Frith then caught fire, hitting a three-pointer and scoring the next five points for the Rangers. UNK carried a narrow 43–40 lead into halftime.
Kearney came out strong to open the second half, starting with a tip-in layup and extending its momentum with a 10-point run. Flores-Peoples answered with a tip-in, and
Dylan Forbord added a layup, but the Rangers trailed 57–44. Planansky connected from beyond the arc, Walters added a pair of jumpers, and Frith finished inside to keep Regis within striking distance. Yost later drilled a key three-pointer, cutting the deficit to 78–63. However, Nebraska Kearney maintained control down the stretch and secured an 87–73 victory.
GAME NOTES
Four Rangers hit double digits: Frith (19), Walters (14), Peoples (11), and Planansky (10).
Walters dished out eight assists.
Yost grabbed nine rebounds.
The Rangers shot 44.8% from the field while the Lopers finished with 52.3%.
