FULLERTON, Calif. – The Regis University Baseball team avenged their Friday loss to California State University-Los Angeles with a pair of wins on Saturday afternoon, 9-1 and 7-3. The Rangers improve to 7-7, while Golden Eagles fall to 3-6.
GAME ONE
The Rangers had two hits in the top of the first, including singles from CJ Difiglia and Adam Paniagua, but did not score until the second, when Difiglia brought in Garrett Rede with a sacrifice fly, and Mattias Sessing's single scored Ayden Harrison. CSLA scored in the bottom of the frame with an RBI on a grounder, followed by three scoreless innings. Clay Conn led off the sixth inning with a solo home run, while Paniagua drove in two runs with a home run, and Zach Barnao followed that with a solo shot of his own to push the lead to 6-1.
RU added two more runs in the seventh with RBI singles from Harrison and Difiglia. Regis also loaded the bases in the eighth, but did not score any runs. George Smith drove in Harrison in the ninth inning with an RBI single to bring the final score to 9-1.
GAME NOTES
· The Rangers totaled 15 hits, including three from Difiglia and Paniagua and two from Jack Moulin and Harrison
· Cal State LA had five hits
· Difiglia and Paniagua both also had two RBIs
· Harrison stole one base
· Aidan Brainard (W, 1-0) earned the win with 10 strikeouts over 6.0 IP
· AJ Moreno (L, 0-1) recorede the loss with five K's over 4.2 innings
GAME TWO
The Rangers carried the momentum into the second game, as Difiglia scored on an error in the top of the first. Nobody scored in the second, but the Golden Eagles produced a run in the third on a sac fly, and another in the fourth on another sacrifice.
Harrison's home run in the top of the fifth evened the game at 2-2-, and Barnao's double added two more to the Rangers total. Conn's single in the sixth batted in Maxim Fullerton, and in the seventh, Fullerton doubled to bring home Moulin and Smith. Cal State scored one run in the bottom of the seventh on an RBI single, but the rally bid ended there, 7-3.
GAME NOTES
· Difiglia, Barnao, and Fullerton each had two hits for Regis, and the team totaled 13
· Barnao batted in three runs, while Fullerton added two
· Three different Eagles also had two hits
· Smith stole bases, and Paniagua took one
