DENVER, Colo. – The Regis University Softball team collected a pair of wins over Adams State University (Colo.) in their home opening series, 7-6 and 6-4, on Saturday afternoon. The Rangers improve to 2-14 (4-2 RMAC), while the Grizzlies fall to 2-14 (0-6 RMAC).
GAME ONE
Mya Chacon and Morgan Norris would both single in the bottom of the first, but the first run o the game would be scored by Olivia Wick on a wild pitch in the bottom of the second. Adams State took the lead with a five-hit, four-run third inning, while the Rangers scored on in the third with an Abby Larsen RBI double.
Mia Moore would steal third, then reach home on an error in the fourth to bring the score to 4-3, but the Grizzlies responded with a pair of insurance runs in the top of the fifth. In the bottom of the frame, Ariana Ybarra scored on a Norris RBI, followed immediately by a Larsen sacrifice fly to bring in Mya Chacon.
The Rangers would take back the lead in the bottom of the switch with an RBI double by Natasha Ellison and an RBI single from Ybarra. ASU would go three-up, three-down in the seventh for the 7-6 RU win.
GAME NOTES
· Five different Rangers recorded a hit
· The Grizzlies had 11 total hits
· Larsen had two RBIs
· Ybarra stole two bases
· Sophia Garcia (1-1) earned the win
· Aubree Davis (L, 2-7) recorded the loss with four strikeouts
GAME 2
The Grizzlies would take the first lead o the second game, scoring tow run in the top of the first on a two-RBI double. However, the Rangers would respond with a two-RBBI double from Norris, and an RBI single from Isabella Porter to bring in Wick and take the 3-2 lead. Adams State evened the score in the top of the second with an RBI single, but Norris put the Rangers back in the lead with a solo home run in the third.
After a scoreless fourth inning, Norris brought in Chacon on an RBI grounder, and Moore pushed the lead to 6-3 with an inside-the-park home run in the sixth. ASU managed one run in the seventh with an RBI single, but the Rangers ended the game, 6-4 with a double play.
