DENVER, Colo. – The Regis University Softball split a pair of games with Black Hills State University (S.D.) in an RMAC doubleheader on Saturday afternoon, dropping the first game, 21-1, and winning the second, 6-3. The Rangers fall to 9-18 (8-10 RAMC), while the Yellowjackets now stand at 16-10 (14-4 RMAC).
GAME ONE
The Yellowjackets would load the bases with two out in the top of the first, then bring in two runners for the 2-0 lead. In the top of the second, Black Hills added three more runs on three straight RBI hits, and while Jessica Isbell singled and Morgan Norris doubled in the bottom of the frame, no Ranger made it home.
BHSU would put together a huge third inning, blowing the game open by scoring 11 runs on seven hits and no Ranger errors. Olivia Wick would put Regis on the board in the bottom of the third inning, lining out to first base, but bringing in Mya Chacon.
The Yellowjackets carried the momentum into the fourth inning, brining in five more runs on six hits, while also leaving two runners on base. Black Hills had one hit in the top of the fifth, as did Regis in the bottom, but the final score would come to 21-1, Yellowjackets.
GAME NOTES
· Five Rangers had one hit, including extra base hits from Ybarra and Norris
· Seven Yellowjackets had multiple hits
· Tyler Whitlock was 4-5 with four RBIs
· Laci Pensky (13-2) earned the win, while Eliza Legge (2-3) recorded the loss
GAME TWO
With a sacrifice fly in the top of the first inning, the Yellowjackets would take a 1-0 lead, but Regis responded as Ariana Ybarra scored during a double play. BHSU then used a two run homerun in the top of the third to take a 3-1 lead, but the Rangers answered again, as Ybarra tripled to score Mia Moore, then stole home. Olivia Wick batted in May Chacon, and Bella Bordine brought in Wick to go up, 5-3. A solo homer from Norris set the Rangers up, 6-3, and they allowed only three hits over the final three innings.
