DENVER, Colo. – The Regis University Softball team suffered a pair of setbacks to RMAC foe Black Hills State University (S.D.) in a doubleheader on Sunday afternoon. The Rangers fall to 9-20 (8-12 RMAC), while the Yellowjackets climb to 18-10 (16-4 RMAC).
GAME ONE
The Rangers were able to load the bases in the bottom of the second inning behind a Morgan Norris double and singles from Jessica Isbell and Isabella Porter. However, the three were stranded, and BHSU took the first lead with an RBI double in the top of the third. The top of the fourth saw a Yellowjacket sacrifice fly to push the lead to 2-0.
The Rangers came alive in the bottom of the fifth inning, as Porter and Mya Chacon singled, setting up a three-RBI home run from Olivia Wick, giving Regis the 3-2 advantage. However, Black Hills would quickly battle back, scoring on a fielding error in the top of the sixth to even the score, then added two more runs via a sac fly and an RBI single to build a 5-3 lead. The Rangers managed two base runners in the bottom of the seventh inning, but were unable to score.
GAME NOTES
· Wick led the Rangers, going 1-2 and batting in three runs
· Porter and Chacon both had two hits
· Porter stole one base
· Desi Hernandez was 1-3 with two RBIs for the Black Hills
· Six yellowjackets had at least one hit
· Caitlyn Potts recorded the loss, while Laci Pesky earned the win, throwing four Ks in 7.0 IP
GAME TWO
Black Hills used a bases loaded walk in the top of the first inning to take the first lead of the game, but the Rangers took control with a big second inning. With two outs, Ariana Ybarra doubled up the middle to bring home Bella Bordine, then Lima Magana scored Isbell and Ybarra on a single to left field. Magana then scored on a Mia Moore RBI to bring the lead to 4-1.
Black Hills put together a huge third inning, scoring 10 runs on seven hits and two Regis errors. The Yellowjackets scored on an RBI single, double, triple, and home run in the inning. The top of the fourth saw another BHSU home run, this one scoring three runs to go up 14-4. In the bottom of the fourth, Magana's single brought home Ybarra, and Abby Larsen's sacrifice fly brought in Isbell. However, the rally bid ended there, as the Rangers fell, 14-6.
GAME NOTES
· Magana went 2-2 with three RBIs for Regis, leading four Rangers with multiple hits
· Six total Rangers had a hit
· Chacon, Ybarra, and Isbell all recorded a stolen base
· Seven Yellowjackets had a hit, led by Ashlynn Pauwels, who went 3-4 with three RBIs
· Ava Edwards recorded the loss, while Paige Goodell earned the win
