DENVER, Colo. – The Regis University Baseball team completed their series sweep of the University of Colorado Colorado Springs on Sunday afternoon with a 13-3 victory. The Rangers improve to 17-9 (7-1 RMAC), while the Mountain Lions fall to 14-8 (4-4 RMAC).
HOW IT HAPPENED
There would be only one hit over the first two innings, a single by UCCS in the second, but the scoring started in the third as a two-out single by UCCS brought in two runs. In the bottom of the frame, Garrett Rede homered to left center bringing in Clayton Conn and Ayden Harrison for the 3-2 lead, and Adam Paniagua immediately followed that with a solo homer of his own. Peter Gold then finished the inning with a sacrifice fly that scored Ethan Wood.
After a scoreless fourth, Paniagua, who had three home runs and a triple thus far in the series, was intentionally walked to lead off the inning. A double from Wood quickly brought him home to extend the lead to 6-2. UCCS earned a run in the seventh on an RBI grounder, but Regis had another huge answer in the bottom. Paniagua was intentionally walked again, and scored on an RBI from Maxim Fullerton. Then a CJ Difiglia triple batted in Peter Goldy and Nolan Johnson, and following a pitcher change, Difiglia took home on a balk.
In the bottom of the eighth inning, Rede was walked, and the Mountain Lions decided to pitch to Paniagua, which proved a mistake as he went yard again, scoring two more Ranger runs. Johnson, the next batter in the lineup, added one more homer for the Rangers, leading to the 13-3 win.
