Eagles Best Rangers in Doubleheader

DENVER, Colo. – The Regis University Softball team dropped two games to Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference foe, Chadron State College, on Friday afternoon, 3-16 and 2-6. The Rangers fall to 12-23 (11-15 RMAC), while the Eagles climb to 11-21 (7-19 RMAC).

The series was rescheduled from March 29 and 30 at Chadron State to March 28 and 29 at Regis. CSC batted in the bottom of the innings.

GAME ONE

The Eagles would start the game strong, scoring four runs in the bottom of the first inning, including a two-out, three run home run. Chadron continued to pile on in the second inning, scoring on two sacrifice hits before Sophia Brennan hit her second homer of the game, this time a grand slam that put CSC up, 10-0.

In the top of the third frame, Olivia Wick would get the Rangers on the board with a home run to left center, brining home Ariana Ybarra and Mya Chacon. Chadron recouped one run in the bottom of the frame on an RBI grounder, bringing the score to 11-3 after three.

The Eagles would record six more hits in the fourth inning, including a pair of RBI doubles, that scores five more run to go up 16-3. In the top of the fifth inning, Mia Moore singled, but would be the only baserunner as Regis lost.

GAME NOTES

·        Wick was 1-2 for Regis, batting in all three runs

·        Five other Rangers also had a hit

·        Brennan went 2-2 with seven RBIs for the Eagles

·        Morgan Norris and Moore each stole a base

·        Ava Edwards (0-5) recorded the loss in 1.1 IP with two strikeouts

·        Tori Haug (5-10) earned the complete game win

GAME TWO

Ariana Ybarra tripled in the top of the first inning, but would be stranded there, and the Eagles left one on in the bottom of the frame as well. RU then used one hit and two errors to load the bases in the top of the second, but again were left scoreless.

Regis retired nine straight Chadron batters across the second, third and fourth innings but were unable to produce any baserunners of their own until the fifth inning. Ybarra and Chacon singled back-to-back, then on a double steal, a pair of Eagle errors allowed both to score. A lead-off homer from CSC in the bottom of the frame got one run back as Regis led, 2-1.

In the sixth inning, Bella Bordine singled, and Norris doubled, but with two in scoring position, the Rangers would again leave runners on. Chadron State capitalized, taking the lead in the bottom of the inning with a two-run homer, and extended that advantage to 6-2 on three more RBI hits.

Ybarra singled in the top of the seventh inning, but no Ranger would reach home as the Eagles claimed the 6-2 victory.
